For Brian Sebastian (4.7/5 - 4 Reviews)

"Mr. Sebastian is a very nice person and I think I learned a lot in his class so far. He always goes over all the homework and helps you with all your questions. It's probably not his fault but sometimes he rushes a little too fast through the chapters, maybe he could slow down sometimes. But after all his a good teacher and I´m glad to be able to learn under him. "

"Brian has been an amazing teacher this new semester. He has been especially helpful in teaching us not only the main material, but also more technical aspects of the language. His friendliness has also made taking this class much easier and much more enjoyable. Brian’s teaching method (such as drills) have also made learning Latin so much easier."

"Audra is wonderful! Her level of Latin is incredible. It is a joy to be taught by her since she has pursued Latin with such dedication. She is patient and makes the class work for each of us students. My Latin is coming along well and this will be valuable as I eventually prepare for a Master’s Degree. Audra has a great grasp on materials, and I love that she makes us drill grammar, which really makes it stick. My favorite part of the class is when we read Latin stories."

For Susi Ferrarello (5/5 - 1 Review)

"Susi is one of the best teachers I have ever had. She is patient with all questions and committed to making sure that I have a good understanding of the material. I love her passion for the Ancient Greek language and her additional information on etymology and culture. If I was not leaving for college in the fall, I would continue learning Greek with Susi as long as I was able."

"She is a very good teacher and has been very helpful. She is able to slow down when it seems we need more help or practice, and I’m grateful for that."

"Stefania can explain the Ancient Greek grammar much better than I feel the textbook does...she is always able to break things down into simple rules....I find Ancient Greek a lot harder than Latin so it’s good to have a teacher who can help me make sense out of it..."

For Lewis Esposito (5/5 - 1 Review)

"Lewis is really good at explaining the parts of the curriculum I have had trouble with and explaining things in a way that is different than what the textbook says....He is also good at identifying which areas I am weak in and doing extra review in class on those without me even having to ask."

For Kostas Petropoulos (5/5 - 1 Review)

"Kostas is a great instructor and always makes speaking Latin fun. In my previous Latin classes I had never spoken beyond reading written things out loud, so it is different and interesting to be forced to come up with words without seeing them on the page."

For Erik Ogle (5/5 - 2 Reviews)

"I am very glad I have started Old English / Anglo-Saxon classes with Erik. He is a great teacher and a very nice person. His language skills are one of a kind and I hope he can teach me all the language he has mastered. I’m sure he can help me achieve my goals. He has been very helpful in explaining the structure of Anglo-Saxon grammar and I will be reading Anglo-Saxon literature very soon. My favorite aspect of our classes is that we never end up talking only about Anglo-Saxon, but he ends up saying many things also about all the other languages he knows."

"Erik has been helping me improve my Latin both by helping me read texts by classical authors and testing my comprehension as well as by having more casual conversations, which helps me expand my vocabulary beyond the philosophical terms with which I’m more familiar. What I like about Erik, and what is especially helpful to me, is how he tends to present multiple possible ways of building Latin sentences, and that helps me get a better sense of the plasticity of the language. That also encourages me to find different ways of expressing myself in Latin, which helps me in my usual philosophical readings. Even after just a few lessons I could already feel that my understanding and ability to translate medieval philosophical texts had already improved significantly."

For Andrew (5/5 - 2 Reviews)

"Avete, omnes. Vale."

"My name is André and I'm from Brazil. My education before Latin was a waste of time. Most Brazilians leave their children's education entirely to the teachers, and though I studied in a Catholic high-school which was supposed to be the best in town, the real fathers of western civilization were totally forgotten. No one mentioned Homer, Caesar, Tacitus, Seneca. When I was 17 I read "In Catilinam" and Homer's Iliad. This is when I found out there was something there. I tried to study on my own and I also tried to take a college degree in literature. But during Latin classes students were indolent, and I gave up the course and decided to hire a private tutor. But there was only one in town and he was 76 years old. Then I decided to hire an online tutor; this is when I met Andrew. I'm glad I met him and I strongly recommend his tutoring services."

For Lydia Haile Fassett (4/5 - 1 Review)

"Lydia is a wonderful teacher. Her enthusiasm is incredibly refreshing and she is always happy to answer any questions I may have on the course material or about Latin in general. I have enjoyed learning more about Roman culture from her.

She has been especially helpful with the more nuanced aspects of the Latin language; this past semester I have greatly enjoyed learning the more elegant and artful methods for translating Latin.

Roman culture, especially the Roman sense of humor, has been fascinating to me. This applies to both of my Latin classes.

Lydia is a wonderful teacher. She has a love for the Latin language that is not only inspiring but also marvelous, and she always has interesting pieces of roman culture to share."

For Jon Pratt (5/5 - 3 Reviews)

"General comment on my instructors — while none of them are bad, Jonathan was exceptional, especially in terms of organization and ability to explain things in a different way than the textbook did. I don’t really want this to be a knock on my current instructors because I like them and am still learning much more than I ever did in regular school language classes (where I learned pretty much nothing, and despite taking Spanish from 3-11th grade, never got to any verb tense other than the present), but he was stellar enough that I’m still comparing."

"My Latin has come back to me; I am studying it completely this time. I am grasping English Grammar much better. Dr. Pratt is incredibly patient, yet moves the class along and does not hold us back. He has been very helpful when answering questions. His work with us on English-to-Latin sentences has been incredible because it is harder that Latin to English. He gives us reading passages that are just a touch above our level to push us!

Each class period feels like a successful use of time! Dr. Pratt has been incredibly patient with us, yet helped to push us deeper into the language. After each class, I leave feeling that we have had a successful hour studying and practicing the language. Even though we are only beginners, we are truly grasping the language already and laying a wonderful foundation for future studies.

Dr. Pratt has high expectations, but understands that we are only just beginning our journey. He is very well educated and loves to discuss all aspects of the language, the history of the language, the culture, and anything else that comes up in relation to words or passages we study. Furthermore he ties Latin in with modern languages, which most of us have studied. Finally, his own depth and understanding of the language is incredible."

For Alex Densmore (2/5 - 1 Review)

"Alex is patient with explaining the more complicated sentences we are having now that we are further into the language. When we are first going over difficult chapters he gives more examples other than just what the textbook has, which is always helpful to break down what is happening grammatically. He is always able to give historical background to the sentences and reading paragraphs in the textbook, which is nice since a lot of times the textbook provides only a sliver of the information you might want to understand what they are about."

For Todd Clary (5/5 - 1 Review)

"Carmenta Latin has given our 9th grade son [Nathaniel] a very positive experience in the study of the Latin language. He looks forward to classes every week and enjoys the interaction and the academic rigors of the class. He's developed a love for Latin and now wants to continue pursuing further language studies...

"Nathaniel and Katherine [my daughter and a Latin Junior student] really love their Carmenta Latin classes! When working through which classes to keep or drop due to either cost or scheduling issues, they each said they'd rather keep Latin and would do what they can to keep it. We're thankful for you [Andrew] and the Carmenta instructors for making Latin come alive to them and inspire their love of learning."
